Fave dei Morti
The 2nd November is the day to celebrate the dead people and in Umbria during this day you can find the 'Fave dei Morti': almond sweets.
These sweets want to represent the human hope for their loved ones after the death. During this day you can find these sweets along the streets and on the stands of the markets.
- 250 grams of sweet almonds
- 5 bitter almonds
- 175 grams of flour
- 250 grams of sugar
- 2 egg white
- grated peel of a half lemon
- 10/20 grams of butter
Boil, toast and mince the almonds. Mix the almonds with the egg white, the butter, the sugar and the grated peel of the lemon.
Form some balls and squash them. Put them into a baking tray. Bake at 170°C for 10/15 minutes.
The “Fave dei morti” have to stay at a temperature of about 6/8°C for at maximum 2/3 days.
